“Look, I was caught in the news yesterday!” I flipped open my phone, excitedly showing my two colleagues the news clipping I captured in the morning.
A colleague looked over from her phone. “What were you doing there?”
“Oh, I attended the Freedom of Religions Forum in PJ last Monday”. I smiled broadly, proud at having done a little act of rebelliousness (in my opinion).
“I mean, what are you doing there? It has nothing to do with you”. My colleague emphasised, smiling at the end of her sentence.
I was stunned. “What do you mean it has nothing to do with me? It has everything to do with me!”
She smiled again, this time putting down her phone and turning her face to me. “But you’re a Muslim, you don’t have a choice (in this country)!”
